The short version

HabitShare is free, runs on iPhone and Android, and is built around sharing habits with friends who can comment on your days and message you. HabitFlame runs on iPhone and iPad, is free for 5 habits with a one-time $9.99 Premium unlock, and pairs you with a partner who can nudge you and react, and, when you have Premium, receives each shared habit you complete the moment it happens. HabitFlame also brings a streak tracker with milestone celebrations, a Pomodoro focus timer, home and lock screen widgets and a full year view.

If one of you is on Android, HabitShare is the app that works for both of you. If you are both on iPhone and want the streak and timer side as well as the partner, keep reading.

Where they agree

  • You choose which habits each friend is part of, and a habit you do not share stays private.
  • Your friend can see whether you did the habit. In HabitShare this is free; in HabitFlame it needs Premium on your side.
  • Both are free to download and use.

Platforms

HabitShare is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad and on Google Play for Android, so a pair with one iPhone and one Android phone can use it together. HabitFlame is an iPhone and iPad app only, and both partners need to be on an Apple device. That single fact decides it for a lot of couples and friends, so it comes first.

Price

HabitShare is free and lists no in-app purchases on the App Store. HabitFlame is free for up to 5 habits with the partner, streaks, widgets, reminders and the focus timer included, and Premium is a one-time purchase of $9.99 that adds unlimited habits, habit stacking, smart insights, real-time partner updates and unlimited partner nudges. There is no subscription in HabitFlame, and both partners can stay on the free version.

How sharing works

In HabitShare you add friends, pick which habits each friend can see, and they follow your progress. HabitShare includes messaging and daily comments, so the accountability can turn into a conversation inside the app.

In HabitFlame you pair with a partner by sending an invite link and pick the habits to share. With Premium, your partner is told the moment you complete one, sees your streak on it and gets a milestone or streak-at-risk alert; without Premium they see a combined weekly count of what you both completed. Instead of a message thread there are two deliberate actions: a reaction, and a nudge when you think your partner needs one, which arrives as a notification. Free accounts can send 3 nudges a month, and Premium makes nudges unlimited. The absence of a message thread in HabitFlame is a design choice: the app stays a tracker, and the conversation happens wherever you already talk.

What HabitFlame has that HabitShare does not list

  • A Pomodoro focus timer with 25 minute sessions, 5 minute short breaks and a 15 minute long break.
  • Home screen and lock screen widgets, including a partner widget, with completion from the home screen widget.
  • Streak milestones at 7, 14, 21, 30, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 365, 500 and 1000 days, and 16 achievement badges.
  • A stats tab with weekly and monthly completion rates and a full year grid.
  • Four tracking types: yes or no, count, duration and multi check-in for habits done 2 to 4 times a day.
  • Reminders whose wording changes from day to day, Apple Health, iCloud sync and export.

The list is drawn from each app's App Store listing and website. A feature that HabitShare has but does not describe there would not appear here.

What HabitShare has that HabitFlame does not

  • An Android version of HabitShare, so mixed pairs can use it.
  • In-app messaging and daily comments between friends in HabitShare.
  • No paid tier at all, where HabitFlame limits the free version to 5 habits.

Updates

The HabitShare iPhone app was last updated in January 2023, according to its App Store listing. HabitFlame was updated in September 2026. That is not a statement about quality, only about how recently each app has changed, which matters for compatibility with new iPhones and new versions of iOS.

Which one to pick

  • Pick HabitFlame if you are both on iPhone and want streak milestones, a focus timer and widgets alongside the partner, with a one-time price instead of nothing at all.
  • Pick HabitShare if you want a friend to see each habit for free; in HabitFlame that needs Premium on the side of the person being watched.
