Why a partner beats a reminder
A reminder tells you what to do. It does not care if you ignore it. A person does. When you know your sister is counting on you to take the walk, the walk gets taken. That social pull is the reason running clubs, study groups and gym buddies work, and it is the reason most solo habit apps get deleted after a few weeks.
HabitFlame was built to put that pull inside a habit tracker without turning it into a social network. There is no feed of strangers, no public profile and no score to compare against people you do not know. There is one partner, or a few, and the habits you choose to share with each of them.
How pairing works
You add a partner from the Partners tab and send them an invite link by message, email or any share sheet destination. When they open the link in HabitFlame, the two of you are paired. If they do not have the app yet, the link takes them to the App Store first. No usernames, no passwords and no account sign-up on either side.
For each partner you decide which habits to share. Share everything, or only the one habit you keep failing at. With Premium on your side, your partner sees each shared habit as you complete it and your streak on it; without it, they see the combined weekly count. Your unshared habits stay private.
What your partner can do
- See a combined weekly count of the habits you both completed, updated when the app is opened.
- Send you a nudge when they think you need one, which arrives as a notification on your phone.
- React to a completion that reaches them, which shows up in your activity feed.
- Keep their own habits in the same app, so the accountability runs both ways.
Free accounts can send 3 nudges a month, enough to feel the feature. Premium removes the limit, so a partner who wants to poke you every evening can.
Real-time updates
With Premium, real-time partner updates send your partner an instant notification the moment you complete a shared habit, plus a milestone alert when a streak milestone is crossed and one evening alert when a streak of 3 or more days is at risk. Your partner does not need Premium to receive them, and their feed, partner widget and streak view for you fill in from them. Without Premium on your side, your partner is not told about individual completions; they see the combined weekly count for the two of you, and your nudges.
The partner widget
A home screen widget shows how your partner's day is going next to your own. It fills in from the updates a Premium partner sends, so it only fills in when the person you are watching has Premium.
What stays private
HabitFlame does not require an account. Your habits are stored on your device and in your own iCloud. With Premium, the shared habits you complete are delivered to your partner through HabitFlame's pairing service and Apple push notifications. Without Premium, the service carries your nudges, reactions and a weekly count of your completions, never individual habits. What pairing itself stores is set out in the privacy policy. Pairing shares only the habits you pick. There is no location sharing, no message history and nothing your partner can see beyond what you chose to share.
Everything else in the tracker
The partner feature sits on top of a full habit tracker. You can log a habit as yes or no, as a count such as glasses of water, as a duration such as minutes of reading, or as a multi check-in for something you do 2 to 4 times a day. Each habit runs every day, on specific days of the week or against a weekly target. Streaks, milestone celebrations, 16 achievement badges, home and lock screen widgets, a Pomodoro focus timer, stats with a full year view, and reminders that change their wording are all included.
Choosing the right partner
The best accountability partner is not the most motivated person you know. It is someone who will actually notice, and who you would feel a little awkward letting down. A friend who checks their phone every evening beats a coach you speak to once a month. A sibling, a housemate or a colleague building the same kind of habit all work well.
Agree on the rules before you start. Decide which habits you will share, whether nudges are welcome every day or only when a streak is at risk, and what counts as done. A habit like reading for 25 minutes is clear. A habit like eating better is not, and a vague habit is hard for anyone to hold you to. Start with one or two shared habits, get a few weeks of streaks behind you, then add more.

Questions about accountability partners
- Does my accountability partner need to buy Premium?
- No. Premium is needed on the side of the person whose completions are sent. If you buy it, your partner receives your updates without paying. If only one of you has Premium, that person's completions arrive instantly and the other person's show only in the combined weekly count.
- Can I have more than one accountability partner?
- Yes. You can pair with several people and choose which habits each of them can follow.
- What does my partner see?
- With Premium on your side, whether each shared habit is done today, your streak on it and milestone and streak-at-risk alerts. Without it, a combined weekly count of what you both completed, plus your nudges. Habits you do not share are never sent.
- Does my partner have to be on iPhone or iPad?
- Yes. HabitFlame is an iPhone and iPad app, so both people need an iPhone or iPad with the app installed.
- What happens if my partner does not open the invite?
- Nothing changes on your side. Your habits keep tracking as normal, and you can resend the link or invite someone else.
